Why your creams keep ending up in a drawer

Very dry, sensitive skin struggles to hold on to water. In Singapore it gets worse, with aircon all day and heat and sweat outside. Your face goes tight, then flaky.

So you try a cream. Some sting. Some smell. Some sit so heavy you can't put make-up on top. One by one, they end up in a drawer.

Your skin isn't being difficult. Most creams just weren't made for it.

A drawn tube with the first three ingredients labelled in order: Water, Jojoba oil, Ice plant juice

It's made around a plant that keeps water in its leaves

The ice plant grows in dry, salty ground. It survives by storing water in tiny balloon-like cells on its leaves. They glitter like ice, which is how it got its name.

This cream uses that plant's juice as its third ingredient, after water and jojoba oil. Then it adds avocado, almond and sunflower oils and shea, mango and cocoa butters. Those sit on your skin and help keep the water there.

No perfume is added. You can read every ingredient further down.

The number 3rd, large, with the ingredient list behind it and the third line highlighted

Ice plant juice is the 3rd of 23 ingredients

Ingredients are listed by weight, so only water and jojoba oil come before it.

It sinks in fast, and your make-up sits on top

Texture strip image (F1) comes later from Lyne, P2-21b row 29. Text only until then.

It's a light cream. It soaks in quickly with no oily film, so you can put foundation on a few minutes later. The brand calls it a make-up base, and buyers say the same.

“My very sensitive skin tolerates this cream excellently, it is absorbed quickly, is odourless and the make-up on top also lasts very well.”

Buyers overseas keep ordering it again

This cream is new to most of Singapore, so these reviews come from buyers in Germany and the US. Each one names the product it's about.

All 23 ingredients, listed. Nothing added for scent.

You read labels for a reason, so here's the whole list, in the order on the tube:

Aqua, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Mesembryanthemum Crystallinum Juice, Persea Gratissima Oil, Alcohol, Glycerin, Arachis Hypogaea Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil, Papaver Somniferum Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter, Lanolin, Lysolecithin, Hectorite, Tapioca Starch, Mangifera Indica Seed Butter, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Chondrus Crispus Extract, Cetearyl Glucoside, Xanthan Gum, Amyris Balsamifera Bark Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract.

Why there's alcohol and one oil: The alcohol helps keep the cream fresh without synthetic preservatives. A little amyris oil is added to the alcohol by law, so it can't be drunk.

Good to know before you buy: it contains peanut oil, sweet almond oil and lanolin. Amyris oil contains eugenol, which some people react to. If you're allergic to any of these, this cream isn't for you.

From the farm to your skin

WALA, the company that makes Dr. Hauschka, picks most of its plants by hand: in its own herb garden, on its own farm in southern Germany, or with partner farms around the world. Then it makes the creams itself, in Germany, as it has since 1967.

FAQ

Is it fragrance-free?

No perfume is added. It does contain a little amyris oil, an essential oil the maker adds to the alcohol (see “What's in it”). Any smell comes from the plants in it. One buyer calls it “a very light, earthy smell”.

Will it sting?

It's made for very dry, sensitive skin, and buyers with sensitive skin say it suits them. Everyone's skin is different, so try a small patch first. If it doesn't suit you within 30 days, Lyne's promise gives you your S$79 back.

Is it heavy?

It's a light cream that sinks in fast and works under make-up.

S$79 is a lot for one tube. What am I paying for?

A face cream made around ice plant juice, with no perfume added, from WALA in Germany, who have made skincare since 1967. And if it ends up in the drawer like the others, you get your money back.

Natural creams have set my skin off before. Why is this one different?

We won't tell you natural means gentle. We can tell you what's in it. No perfume is added, and all 23 ingredients are listed, nut oils included. Read the list, try a small patch, and you still have 30 days to decide.

Is it the real thing? What about expiry dates?

Yes. Lyne orders it from WALA, the maker in Germany, and we send it out from our International Plaza studio. Want to see the expiry date before you pay? WhatsApp us on +65 9751 6279 and we'll send you a photo of the tube you'll get.

Does it have steroids?

No. It's a cosmetic face cream. If a doctor has given you a cream for your skin, ask them how to use both.

How do I get the free facial?

Spend S$200 with us within 12 months and you get one free 1-hour facial at our International Plaza studio. We email you a code, and you WhatsApp us to book.

How does Lyne's 30-day promise work?

If the Face Cream doesn't suit your skin within 30 days of delivery, WhatsApp us on +65 9751 6279 with a photo of the tube. Choose S$79 store credit or your S$79 back. You don't need to send it back. One claim per customer.

When will it arrive?

We pack orders every morning and the courier collects the next working day. Delivery is free from S$100. You can also collect from International Plaza.

If it ends up in the drawer, your S$79 comes back

From here it goes one of three ways. You carry on as you are and grab whatever's in the drawer when your face goes tight. You keep trying creams one at a time, S$20 here, S$40 there, hoping the next one is the one. Or you try this one for 30 days, and if it ends up in the drawer too, you get your money back.
